A Safe Space for Mothers* experiencing Peri / Menopause to Share and Connect
From pregnancy through menopause, a mother’s* journey through the associated hormonal changes can have a dramatic impact on her mental health. While women in their 40s and 50s have their own families, they are also often concerned with their aging parents who live abroad. As well as feeling the impacts of their own peri/menopausal symptoms.
Maybe you are the mother* of growing teenagers or young adults. Maybe have ageing parents living far away who are starting to have health issues? Have you maybe been feeling anxious or not like yourself lately, or maybe you find things harder to deal with than before? Maybe you are feeling overwhelmed or not very hopeful? Or embarrassed that you can’t think straight, or are forgetting things more frequently?
Peri/menopause is often associated with hot flashes, night sweats and fatigue but there are many symptoms that go unrecognised or are falsely attributed to other health issues. Eighty percent experience moderate symptoms of peri/menopause and up to thirty percent suffer from debilitating symptoms. It can last for months or years. It often comes on during our forties and fifties and we often we suffer in isolation.
Our peer-led in-person meetings offer a space to connect with others who share similar experiences, without the need to explain or justify your struggles. It’s a place for open conversation, mutual support, and exchanging perspectives on balancing motherhood*, personal well-being, and everyday life.
Some topics we may touch on are depression, anxiety, loneliness, isolation, fear, unhappiness and the myriad of related physical symptoms such as joint pain, headaches, brain fog, night sweats, exhaustion, etc.
Come share and exchange with us in a safe space with other immigrant mothers around these issues. It can be a difficult time, but we don’t need to suffer alone.
Who is this group for?
• Mothers* who are experiencing Perimenopause or Menopause
• Those looking for understanding and a sense of community
• Anyone interested in sharing experiences or simply listening to others
We are very much looking forward to welcoming you as a peer soon.
Please note: This group will be conducted in English and is open to anyone who considers themselves a mother* or primary caretaker of all age children regardless of gender identity or family structure who would like to share their stories and experiences in a safe space.
About our facilitator
The group is facilitated by immigrant mother*, Tasha Walters.
Her role is to facilitate the conversation and ensure the safety of the group.
Tasha is originally from the U.S. but has been living in Berlin for the last 20 years, where she raised her family and experienced firsthand the challenges of being a mother* in a foreign country -adapting to a new culture and language without familiar support networks.
More recently, as her children became young adults and her own parents started failing, she found herself in the throes of peri/menopause, struggling with debilitating symptoms and trying to find the support she needed.
Talking and sharing with other mothers* in similar situations proved to be very helpful and in response she would like to bring the sharing and support to other immigrant mothers* in this stage of life.
