Father’s* Group
Fatherhood* is hard. Doing it far from home can be harder. You don’t have to do it alone.
About the group
Sometimes being a dad* means carrying a lot without talking about it. This space exists so you don’t have to carry it by yourself.
If you're raising a child in Germany and it’s not the country you grew up in, you may know the feeling. You're trying to support your partner, be present for your family, and figure out fatherhood* while navigating a different culture, language, and way of life.
This group is led by fathers* who know that experience firsthand. We've asked the same questions and felt many of the same pressures. The moments that feel overwhelming. The moments that feel incredible. And the quiet moments in between where you're just trying to figure it all out.
This is a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space for fathers* and soon-to-be fathers*.
When we meet, it often looks simple. A small group of dads* sitting together and having a conversation in English. Someone shares something from their week. Someone else nods because they've been there too. Sometimes we talk a lot. Sometimes there are quiet moments. Both are part of the space.
You don’t have to have all the answers.
You don't even know the questions yet.
You can talk, listen, vent, reflect, or simply sit with other dads* who understand. Verbal and non-verbal participation are both welcome.
There are no expectations and no strings attached. Just a group of fathers* making space for each other.
Share your experiences, Share your grief, Share your wins, Try to understand your partner, Try to understand other fathers, Try to understand yourself.
This group centers the experience of immigrant, international, and foreign fathers* living in Germany. If you're raising your family between cultures or languages, this space was created with you in mind. German fathers raising children in multicultural families are welcome too.
Expectant fathers* and fathers* of children of any age are welcome.
We welcome anyone who considers themselves a father*, regardless of gender identity or family structure.
Show up when you can, Show up how you can, Show up as you are.
Some days you may want to talk, Some days you may just want to listen, Both are welcome here.
You’re already doing the work of being a dad and you don’t have to carry it alone.

When I became a dad*, I realized I wasn't the only one figuring it out.
I joined the Afloat Fathers* Group while waiting for our first-born, and immediately found a space where dads were open about the real highs, lows, and everything in between. I'm extremely grateful for the insights I gained during that time. It gave me confidence as a first-time father and continues to guide me now with our second child.
I'm a Mexican American living in Braunschweig, Germany, and since welcoming our son in 2023 and then our daughter in 2025, life has been a whirlwind of learning, laughter, and discovery.
Facilitating the Afloat Fathers* Group allows me to give back and help other dads* navigate this journey with the same support, honesty, and connection I was fortunate to find.
Fatherhood* is full of surprises, but it's better when you don't have to figure it out alone.
