A place to connect for those who are pregnant

Pregnancy is such a unique phase of life and can be empowering and fulfilling but also overwhelming and emotional. For international families, being far from familiar systems and support networks can lead to increased stress and overwhelm.

This group provides a safe space for those who are pregnant and living in the Frankfurt area to sit down with each other, share experiences, ask questions, and discuss a range of topics related to pregnancy and the transition to parenthood. The group is open to anyone who is pregnant--whether they are in the beginning of their journey or in those last few weeks before birth.

This is a peer support group and does not serve as a childbirth education course or as a source of medical advice or information.

Topics covered include:

  • The emotional ups and downs of pregnancy and postpartum

  • Relationships with partners, extended family, and friends—setting boundaries and asking for help

  • The transition to parenthood and shifting identities

  • Expectations, worries, and sources of support for the postpartum time

About our facilitators

The group is facilitated by international mom* and doula, Amanda Graybill. Amanda’s role is to facilitate the conversation and ensure the safety of the group.

Disclaimer: Please note that this group is not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment by a psychotherapist or psychiatrist. We are a peer to peer support group and a hub to connect you with health care professionals and other service providers around pregnancy and mother*hood.

Here’s how it works

  • This is a 4-week group. The group meets February 4th-26th, 2025.

  • The group meets at the Familienzentrum im Westend. The Familienzentrum im Westend opened in the middle of the pandemic and has been supporting international families ever since. Having won the Hessischen Familienpreis this year speaks volumes about this inclusive and engaging new resource for Frankfurt families. We are excited to be partnering with them and enhancing their English language offerings while expanding our reach for in person perinatal support.

  • The group language is English.

  • Maximum 10 participants + 1 facilitator

  • The suggested donation for this group is 40€. Afloat requires donations to cover the costs of running our groups so your help is crucial to keep us going. Thank you so much for your help. Please remember that your donation is tax-deductible in Germany and offers financial benefits. A sliding scale fee structure is also available for those who need a reduced rate. The group is open and welcomes everyone, regardless of ability to pay.
